Welcome

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” — Maya Angelou

Maybe you’ve spent so long surviving that it has become your norm.

You keep yourself busy because slowing down doesn’t feel safe. You instinctively read the room, hyperaware of how others might perceive you. You anticipate others’ needs before understanding your own. Some days, you are emotionally numb; others, overwhelmed. You feel disconnected from your body, unable to fully rest, always waiting for something to go wrong.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone. Many survivors of adverse childhood experiences move through the world this way. These patterns are not signs of weakness or personal failure—they are adaptive responses that once helped you survive. Now these strategies may no longer serve you in the ways they once did, but they don’t have to define your future.

The strategies that once protected you deserve to be understood with compassion—not judged. In therapy at Floruit, we honor how you survived while gently creating space for new ways of living that feel safer, more connected, and more fully your own.
